Ella's second event was hammer. Despite being her least favourite event and least trained for, she threw a PB - 42.32m placing her 5th out of 7.
At the same time as Ella was competing, Elye (a friend and fellow team mate) was running in the U16 boys 3000m and he won!!! It was a great run too.
Ella and I made our way over to Perth for the weekend. Ella was travelling with the ACT Schools Athletics Team to compete at the National Schools Athletics Champs. I was travelling solo....
Ella qualified to compete in Hammer, Discus and Javelin as an U17 and the events were nicely spread out one event per day.
Mum and I made our way to Challenge Stadium, the newish stadium that replaced Perry Lakes to watch Ella compete in her first event - discus. It was the first time I had been at this stadium and was impressed by how nice it was. We found a spot on the grassy slope in the shade.
Ella threw 28.43m and was disappointed to be several metres behind her best. She placed 8th from the a field of 9. The winner, a girl from NSW who Ella often competes against, threw 50m and was well out in front.
Post event we took Mum home as she was exhausted. We made a beeline to Port Beach to cool off before returning Ella back to the team at the stadium.
First advent calendar envelope is always put up the decorations....girls and Indi did a grand job!
In all of the end of year excitement and milestones, a small celebration was missed from November when Katy's braces came off!! She, like Ella, has a wire and needs to wear a retainer for sometime....

It is official - Ella has graduated from Year 10 at Canberra High School. Her journey there was enjoyable and she really loved the opportunities presented in association with the Year 10 leadership team. She scooped up a few awards too...her favourite an $80 voucher to Rebel! We celebrated the night by going out to dinner with her boyfriend Ryan and his parents.
I was amazed at the harvest form my cherry tree this year! Threw a net loosely over the tree as it was too big to have a frame and so glad I did! We got a 5kg crop of delicious cherries!
Managed to pull this together in the final week of November. This creation had to allow for two separate times away from home and on one occasion the girls were also apart! Decided to do double envelopes to solve that dilemma. The question is - will this be the last year of the homemade advent calendar....
