A Rare Opportunity

Prior to Andy departing on his most recent overseas trip, we treated ourselves to a child free night!! The dinner voucher was from the Hogg family for my birthday. It has taken us only 5 months to us it! But we were also celebrating my new job (more on that later).

To top if off, the dinner came with babysitting which quickly became a sleepover with the girls choosing Nana and Grandpa's house. Needless to say, they were very excited. It was Ella's third sleepover at the grandies (the first being a trial pre Katy and the second when Katy was born) and for Katy is was her first sleepover. Actually for Katy it was her first sleepover ever! We made things a little easier by dropping off the girls after dinner and bath all ready for bed in their pi's.

As we walked out the door both Andy and I looked at each both wishing we weren't so exhausted.  Andy had had a big week at work combined with preparing his talk for his trip. I had worked the previous weekend being on call from Thursday to Sunday night and followed this up with 3 days at my new job.

Our reservation was at a trendy restaurant in Braddon - eightysix. The name eightysix apparently is restaurant lingo referring to taking an item off the menu when it is no longer available. The menu was scrawled across the blackboard which covered one side wall of the restaurant. Our waiter decipher each one and was very helpful in recommending certain combinations pointing out that most dishes were designed to be shared.

All the dishes had fancy names but essentially we chose 3 entrees - corn, apple and blue cheese salad, pork belly followed by lamb ragu with gnocchi as the main and finished off with dessert - popcorn sundae for Andy and passionfruit pavlova for myself all washed down with some wine. Our seats at the bar overlooking the kitchen were great. It was absolutely fascinating watching the chefs hard at work pulling together the dishes.

All in all it was a lovely night. The food was great and it was nice to spend some time together. Unfortunately we forgot to take any photos to record this rare child free occasion. Oh well maybe next time…when ever that is!
