Lessons Begin

Monday morning dawns with a magnificent view of the main range and everyone excited about the prospect of skiing. Our family was large with 15 members and as expected had a wide range of desires and abilities.

The majority of us (11) were booked in for a lesson of some sort. For the kids they had a 3 hour lesson beginning at 11am. Josh was learning how to snowboard for the first time while the others were skiing. Katy, Mia, Maki and Luca all managed to be grouped in the same lesson focussing on turning; Grace was skiing for the first time while Ella was on a slightly higher level working on parallel turns. Susie, Cathy and myself also managed to make it into the same group for our 2 hour lesson.

Meanwhile the non lesson people were doing a variety of activities - Andy was attempting the lodge challenge which involved catching three lifts located on the three furthest points of Perisher;  Dave was doing some solo skiing; Sandra and Patrick were snowshoeing up to Blue Cow. Now snowshoeing wasn't Patrick's first choice. He would normally be zooming around on his snowboard however a fall from his mountain bike a few days prior to our holiday saw him break a bone in his hand and put him out of action.

Post lessons the big girls did a little tour trying to master some of the skills learnt during the lesson then continued on to pick up all the kids. Before any more skiing was done, it was lunch time! The beautiful weather meant we could enjoy eating outside. From here the group splintered further - Josh and Susie stayed on the early starter so Josh could get up to speed with his boarding; Cathy headed off with Mia, Maki and Ella for an adventure while Andy and myself watched Luca and Katy make snow thrones before joining Susie and Josh for a few runs. A very successful and enjoyable day was had by all.
