The 20 Year Waterfall Plan

Somewhere around 1992 or early 1993, my parents decided to take out the fibreglass swimming pool. With not much use and too much cleaning, it was deemed to have come to the end of its life! And so a crane came and lifted the pool out for someone else to have many years of summer fun in it like my brother and I had when we were growing up.

Rather than fill in the hole, my parents created a sunken garden with visions of a waterfall/pond/feature. The limestone retaining walls went up quickly thanks to some handiwork by my brother. It was at this point that Andy came on the scene with the waterfall half completed and there the waterfall stayed.

On our arrival, the fishbone ferns had taken over the rockfall and waterfall pond. We made the snap decision to resurrect this area and ensure the 3 water features were all working. A little bit of hard work, including a small skip filled to the brim with ferns, a few new plants, a couple of solar pumps installed and the area looks awesome!

The girls each planted a fruit tree - Ella a Japanese seedless one and Katy a Clementine. They also bought Nana and Grandad the largest tea cup!
