We spent the last day with Annwen and kids touring the AIS. Our tour began spending 45mins in Sportex, the interactive sports area. The kids were cycling, rowing, skeletoning, skiing, wheelchair racing, shooting hoops and kicking soccer balls to name a few things. There were a few sad faces when it was time to leave to commence the actual tour viewing the facilities.
Our first port of call was the gymnastics hall which was absent of gymnasts. The volleyball courts made up for that with a team of young male volleyballers practising. The strength and conditioning gym had a couple of athletes pumping away. The $17m swimming pool, known by our family as the secret pool as the only access by the public is via the tour. was also empty. Ella's swimming squad occasionally goes into this pool when the normal 50m is booked. The tour guide was good with interesting snippets of information. After living in Canberra for 13 years, it was good to finally tick this off the touristy-to-do-list!
The rest of the afternoon we whipped up a feast and enjoyed a lovely final farewell dinner for our visitors.
On Monday morning after breakfast, we wandered down to Little Oink, with all the bags for the last coffee. We then accompanied Annwen and the kids into town where they alighted the bus bound for Sydney! Sad to see them go but happy to have spent a week with them making memories :)
