Living up to its Name

Truly the City of Gardens, I left the conference around 4pm and walked over the Dragonfly Bridge enjoying the wonderful panorama of the Supertrees and Domes of the Gardens by the Bay. Mum and Dad had made their way earlier to explore the top tourist attractions -  the Flower and Cloud domes. I'd already been through both of these awesome conservatories back in 2013.

Something we didn't manage to do though in 2013 stopover, probably due to the fact we had a 3 and 5 year old, was the Skyway. It is a 128 metre aerial walkway between several of the Supertrees providing a birds-eye view of the gardens and surrounding areas. Being afraid of heights Mum wasn't keen to join us on this metal platform suspended 22 metres in the air!

A total of 18 Supertrees dominate the skyline of the Gardens by the Bay, with 12 of these clustered together in the Supertree Grove. The trees range in height between 25 - 50 metres tall and their sides serve as a vertical garden of ferns, orchids and bromeliads. The trees have several other environmental purposes - harness solar energy, collect rainfall and act as ventilation towers for the conservatories.

We ambled back to Marina Bay Sands in search for dinner. Luckily we had a bit of time to kill and managed to do so by getting quite lost. The complex is huge with a casino, hotel, shopping area, restaurants and conference centre spread over several stories and all linked together underground making orientation quite confusing!

Post dinner we reserved a front row spot for the famous Spectra -  light and water spectacular. Over 15 minutes, you are immersed in dancing fountains, special lighting effects and colourful visual art all carefully choreographed to an inspiring symphony of music. It didn't disappoint.
