Scorcher

The waves could be heard crashing from our place but it wasn't until the sun rose in the morning that we realised just how close we were as seen by the view from the kitchen window -

At the crack of dawn, Andy, Ella, Al, Alma and myself drove to Broulee to meet up with the local surfing guru Navid (Andy's work colleague) for a pre breakfast surf. Conditions were choppy and being beginners we found the waves difficult. I think we both only managed to stand up twice and not for very long. Post surf Andy headed off to the map where the Autumn Classic Orienteering events are to be held in May for some serious planning. Al, the girls and I drove to the Mossy Point cafe. The food and coffee were as great as we remembered and the boat was still there!! We reminisced about past trips to Mossy Point while Al fielded the odd email / text / call from work....

 Our family 2012

The day was off to a fantastic start - refreshing surf/swim, delicious food and coffee. On returning home, the rest of the gang were itching to go to the beach. We threw our towels over our shoulders and walked out the back gate to find a beautiful beach known by the locals as Tomakin Cove. The remainder of the morning was spent here frolicking in the water keeping cool.

Max temperature for the day was 34°C - finally a real summers day and a scorcher by our standards! For the afternoon the kids wanted to visit the lolly shop at Mogo so we ambled over. We were all feeling the intense heat as we wandered around and although an ice cream was enjoyable it did little to cool us down. Several purchases were made before we rounded up everyone. Ella spotted a sewing shop on the outskirts of town so our car detoured for a look in there Turned out it was not only a shop selling sewing stuff but also a museum housing hundreds of old swing machines!!

Dinner was at the local sports club - a great venue to cater for everyone. Cool beverages were welcomed especially by the boys who'd spent a long day wandering around the scrubby sand dunes deciding on options for the two events. Andy even got to meet one of the locals....

Glad we got our summers beach day in as the heavens opened up once again on Sunday morning. Despite the rain, the boys decided they needed to spend several more hours on course stuff so a return trip to the map was necessary. For the rest of us there wasn't much for us to do but pack up, have coffee and head back to Canberra in the rain...
