Bungonia Gorge

The route back to the car involved hiking up Bungonia Gorge! It was certainly an adventure scrambling and negotiating all those massive boulders! The 5km trail took an arduous 2hrs 20mins but was fun. The tired but happy crew arrived back home mid afternoon.

Leo Hangs Out

Leo came to stay for a few nights as his family were in various places! Indi loved it!. We walked up to the side of Mt Painter in the mist arriving at the summit as the sun was breaking through. Spent some time up there posing for photos and eventually managed to get one with both dogs looking in the same direction!

17!

Ella is creeping into adulthood! We had to wake her up to give her presents before scooting off to work and school.  Leo joined in! There was no family celebration or party on her birthday instead she went out to dinner with Ryan!

While Ella was out enjoying herself, Andy and Katy joined Rob and Mira and friend Lily for the annual Dad, Daughters (and friends) overnight hike. Under time pressure, they chose nearby Bungonia National Park. Leaving Canberra in the early afternoon on Friday, the group arrived at Bungonia and began hiking by 4pm. Luckily the 4km downhill trail to the Shoalhaven river only took them about an 1hr, so they managed to set up camp as darkness descended.

Growing

Recently we had the Chinese pistachio trimmed. They left a great pile of mulch to use on our garden which I was very grateful for.

And autumn is around the corner with the beautiful colours brightening up our garden. It is amazing to see the change that has occurred over the past 17 years! Here is our little Japanese maple back in 2009!

Clock Keeps Ticking

Yep...I woke up one morning and I was half a century old! Think I coped way better than Andy did. No huge celebrations - we might get around to having a 100th. The family went out for dinner to Zaab (Laos street food restaurant). It was delicious with both girls agreeing too! Gelato after hit the spot.

Not Even Close

First fire of the season - 9th April - not even close to Anzac Day! Nice colours in the sunset set though seen on Tuesday night intervals!

Katy's added more bling....

Add Indi has lost a bit of hair...we were trying a new place as our normal groomer has hurt her shoulder and is out indefinitely. After this effort thought will not be a return customer. Poor Indi was very short and patchy and ended up with clipper burn.

Belconnen Aths Presentation

BLAC shifted the AGM / presentation day form the Cook Oval to a nearby Primary School Hall due to the torrential rain!

Ella, together with her friends, were recognised for their last year as a Belconnen Little Athlete. All three have participated from U6's!

Ella was also awarded the Throws award and surprisingly the Presidents Award (which hadn't been awarded for several years) for her services to the On Track Program and coaching in general on Saturday mornings! Proud moment for both her and us!

Katy had slept over at a friends and wasn't at the presentation. She placed 2nd in her age group despite missing the end of the season with her hip injury.

Day 3 Easter

Last day and the blazing sun has thankfully been tucked behind clouds...Narrinyeri Hills almost on our backdoor! The terrain was described as rocky hillside with mallee scrub, native pines and low scrubby vegetation reducing visibility.

The day provided lots of action and drama! Ella's knee was a big problem but she decided to start her course and see what happened. Turns out that by the first control she could barely bend her knee to run and walked the remainder of the course with one of the Tassie orienteers who was also having trouble.

Meanwhile Andy's dodgy hamstring which restricted his ability to run proved to be an advantage with him taking the win for his course and  leap frogging others into 3rd place overall!

We didn't hang around for presentations as we were to begin our long drive home. We with a group of others had booked in to stay the night at Tooleybuc on the Victorian / NSW border about a 4.5 hr drive. The drive was not particularly pleasant due to heavy rain and then evening falling but we made it there without incident. Dinner at the country club was relaxing.

It was an early start the next morning with a full day of driving back to Canberra. Easter 2024 will go down with lots of memories - the houseboat was fantastic, the orienteering was ok and by the end o the weekend there was not a healthy, strong one amongst us! Needless to say we were all looking forward to lots of recovery!
