Farewell to Lollypop Legs

Sadly while Ella was on camp, Katy and I discovered that Lollypop Legs (Ella's chicken) was waddling like a duck and had a rather large tummy. My first instinct was that an egg was stuck. After a little googling on identifying and fixing stuck eggs, I lowered Lollypop Legs into a warm bath as suggested. She seemed to enjoy it and was quite relaxed.

Fifteen minutes later, I returned her to the coop and stood by watching for any signs of the egg. Her tummy was contracting looking like it was trying to get the egg out, however then she just sat down in a little hole and did nothing.

Katy and I then decided this wasn't working and took her to the local vet who after listening to the symptoms and examining her tummy decided that it possibly wasn't an egg that was stuck but an accumulation of fluid from either an infection or a malignancy. She took Lollypop Legs away to see if any fluid could be drawn from her tummy. Unfortunately the vet returned with a syringe full of fluid. Sad news for Lollypop Legs and for us.

We gave Lollypop Legs a little cuddle before she flew up to heaven to play with Molly and Rosie. Katy was very upset - there were tears for Lollypop Legs and tears for Ella!
