Mummy Daughter Skiing Weekend

The opportunity arose for Katy and myself to go skiing with Al and Mira for a few days with the lodge still not full. It just so happened that Cath and Aoife had pre booked a couple of nights and so our paths crossed!

Arriving at Guthega by mid morning, we made it onto the snow before lunch. We did a few loops of Freedom trying remember how to ski. I certainly was rusty and feeling very much like a beginner - it had been 2 years since I last skied (thanks covid)!

Conditions were ok - snow was fairly soft but the overcast weather meant we experienced some difficulty with depth perception. We did a loop of Blue Cow prior to regrouping for lunch.

Post lunch we headed over to the gentle slopes of Happy Valley and Leichhardt area. Knowing the afternoon was ticking by, we decided to make our way back over to Guthega. At Freedom, Al and the three little girls were keen to complete a few more tree runs while Cath and I made our way back to the comfort of the lodge.

Daddy Daughter Skiing Weekend

With a good dump of snow early in the season and spare spaces at the lodge, Ella and Andy along with Rob and Max headed up for a few days of skiing. For Ella it was an opportunity to test out her new (secondhand) skis prior to the Interschool competition in July.

Conditions were ok - blue skies and cold, however rain the day before made the snow icy. The crew parked at Perisher and spent most of their time in Central Valley and Mt P before going over to Blue Cow. The kids went straight to the lodge while Andy and Rob returned to Perisher to drive the car around to Guthega.

The next day the gang completed a loop of Blue Cow. The dads then left the kids for a quick afternoon backcountry adventure and what an adventure they had!

Choosing to hike up Guthega trig to Falls Creek, the going was tough. The rain had created icy ridges which were both difficult to ski down and also to get traction (even with with skins on) walking up! There were a few slips and lost skis! The photos look gorgeous though!

Queen's Birthday Long Weekend

We trekked down to Wagga Wagga for the QB111 orienteering carnival. It was bitterly cold and we were glad not to be camping. The orienteering courses varied and so did our results. Andy was mr consistent; I had a few shockers; Ella was on and off; Katy had 2/3 good runs. It was nice to get out of Canberra for the weekend.

Indi had a weekend at Panda's. it must have been a tiring weekend cause she curled up and went straight to sleep once back at home!

End of season athletics wrap up

The Belconnen Little Athletics had their annual prevention night. As Katy had gymnastic, it was only Andy and Ella who attended. They had to sit through a quick annual general meeting before the awards. Katy received 3rd place in her age group for the season. Ella got a surprise when her name was announced as the winner of the perpetual throwing trophy awarded for excellence during the season!

A few weeks later, we all attended the North Canberra - Gungahlin Athletics awards night. The only prize scored was Ella's number being drawn out for a lucky door prize!

Polar 50th!

Susie chose a Polar theme for her 50th Birthday Party! Hosted at home, numerous fire pits were blazing and a few gas heaters pumping out warmth - an attempt to keep the chill at bay. Rain threatened but only a few misty episodes eventuated. Patrick and his band dusted off their instruments providing a few tunes.

Costumes were varied. Ella enjoyed spending a considerable amount of time making her own dress. She was thrilled with the sparkly snowflake fabric she found at spotlight. Several nights were spent sewing and adjusting until it was just right!

The rest of us were animals - reindeer, penguin and an elephant seal complete with tracker!

It was great to get out and socialise once again!

Dave showing off his polar stamp collection!

Going Crazy

Indi loves kangaroos and rabbits often going crazy with excitement. Despite the misty conditions on Mt Painter preventing her from spotting the kangaroos, she could smell them and that was enough to have a sudden rush of blood to the head and go slightly crazy!!

Life with Two Teenagers!

Katy turned 13! It was a school day so an early wake up to unwrap presents was required. Katy was pleased to receive a pair of AirPods from us and a large jumper from Ella amongst other things. A visit to the rock climbing gym in the evening followed by takeaway dinner with crumble and ice cream. Party plans are still evolving....
