Riding with Friends

We had the pleasure of a visit from Aoife, Cath and Eoin a few weekends ago. It was supposed to be our annual day trip to the snow however as Andy was going to be outnumbered (I was in Sydney for a workshop) he decided that it was going to be a bit much. Aoife and Lily (with their parents) still headed up to the mountains on the Saturday and although the weather wasn't the greatest the snow was fantastic - heaps of powdery snow. We are hoping that the snow will last for another few weeks so that we are able to do a mid week day trip.

On Sunday we (I had returned from Sydney) all headed to a cafe in Dickson followed by a bike ride to explore Dickson wetlands. The latest trend in Canberra is the transformation of several local parks into wetlands. The benefits of these wetlands according to the ACT Government include -

  • provide water quality improvements
  • play a role in flood detention
  • increase aquatic and terrestrial habitat in urban areas
  • provide an oasis in the suburbs
  • create new recreational, volunteering and educational opportunities
  • supply stormwater to irrigate playing fields.

Dickson wetlands is a medium sized pond with a path winding around the edge. The beauty for us adults was we could stand at the lookout and watch the girls complete a loop of the pond!!
