We're still catching up on a backlog of blogs here, so we before we tell you about the weekend just gone, here is some more from the previous weekend.
After a big few days, it was a quiet and lazy morning playing and tag team running. However this was short lived as Robin, Jo, Emma and Sophie joined us for lunch. Plans for the afternoon activities were always going to be decided at the last minute based on the weather conditions. Hence with the light rain we opted for an indoor activity. Our choices included ice skating - great for older girls but not the younger ones, story telling or a craft activity. Consensus was for story telling at Barefoot Books.
We were a little shocked at the 12 pound per family fee which we weren't expecting and after handing over the money just hoped it was going to be good. The story teller was definitely gifted. She involved the children in each story and managed to hold their attention for just over 30mins. I'm not entirely sure if the experience was worth the price tag though.
The second story, a traditional Indian tale, was based on a boy who was asked by an eagle, tiger and ant to help rescue a dog from underneath a log. As a token of their thanks, the boy was given four special gifts - an eagle's feather, tiger's claw, dog's whisker and an ant's leg. The main focus was the boy used these gifts to overcome evil and rescue the princess.
During this story, the story teller wanted the children to remember different aspects. She asked them 'Which bird did the feather come from?' Ella excitedly and quickly stuck up her hand obviously full of knowledge and then replied 'Duck!' Her answer had us all in stitches. We muffled our laughter and wiped away the tears rolling down our faces. It was a priceless moment.
Once the story telling was finished we headed downstairs to the cafe to enjoy a coffee while the girls happily, drew pictures while watching an animated book on the big screen followed by some more story time. A lovely, relaxed way for all of us to spend a Sunday afternoon.
