Depot Beach

It was back to the beach for the annual GFD retreat (Andy's work group). The chosen location Depot Beach in the heart of Murramarang National Park, just 15 mins north of Bateman's Bay on the South Coast.  A wonderful spot that offered both camping and cabins all nestled in a forest of tall spotted gum trees, an abundance of friendly wildlife and a short walk to the beach. It was a perfect place to meet the wide needs of the group.

Again we took the opportunity to skip Friday afternoon from school and work which meant we were driving down the Clyde around 4pm. A quick family photo at Pooh Bear corner before discussing our options for the afternoon which turned out to be an adventure into a new part of the Bay - Surfside! The weather was nicely hot enough for a pre-dinner play and dip in the ocean.

An obvious choice of fish n chips for dinner so no negotiations needed except as to which take away to go to on the main street! Enjoyed our dinner overlooking the bay. After ice cream we drove the short distance to Depot Beach and set up our tent. Andy's work colleagues began to arrive in dribs and drabs and by dark the group had swelled to 20+ adults and 5 children!

The next morning while Andy was out running, the girls and I explored. Descending the stairs to Depot Beach, we were treated to stunning views of the forest coming right to the ocean and a rock platform at the base of the rocky headland. As the tide was low, the attraction of fossicking around the rock pools was too much so off we went.

Dodging the blue bottles we wandered along discovering many treasures - a port jackson egg casing, cuttlefish and Katy even found two very well camouflaged starfish (dead)! By the time we got back, Andy and co had returned and everyone was eager to cool off so back to the beach we went. Several hours were spent building castles and playing in the waves.

Post lunch, frisbee and games we were eager to try another beach. This time, a small hike away over the very steep headland to North Durras Beach. A lovely sheltered beach with sparkling water just perfect to swim, splash, paddle and generally relax at.
