Getting There

High on our list of things to do on holiday was a day trip to Rottnest to see some quokkas. After investigating the logistics, digesting the cost (since when has it been SO expensive??), consulting the weather forecast the day was chosen!

Our morning began relatively early. We had spent the night at my brothers house so had to negotiate Kwinana Freeway for 20km to get back to Mum and Dad's place. The freeway looked fairly flowing from Daryl's house so we decided to risk a traffic jam but also left 20mins earlier than planned....just in case!

First thoughts were positive - the traffic was moving at a descent pace. However that only lasted for 10km before we hit a slow spot. The girls were happy to count the trains passing us on their tracks in the central portion of the freeway. It's a pastime that has developed from our numerous Perth trips - to count the number of trains on the freeway!

The total number of trains for this trip stood at 6 and we had been in Perth for 13 days. As we inched forward for 5km, the peak hour (or two?) morning trains were shooting pass and the girls had added another 13 in a blink of an eye! Happily we left the freeway still ahead of our ferry catching schedule despite the traffic jam.

A quick transition at the Grandies house to pick up some food and Grandad. He drove us into Fremantle to the B shed where our ferry was to depart. Perfectly timed allowing us to enjoy a coffee and croissant preparing for the big day ahead!
