Our morning swim destination was Smiths Beach, near Canal Rocks south of Yallingup. En route we called into Killerby Winery / Cheeky Monkey Brewery, a spot we'd noticed from the road having driven past several times already. It was way too early for any sort of wine, beer or cider sampling however the coffee machine was warm which is just what we were after. After drinking and eating the girls disappeared to explore the perfectly placed playground leaving us to enjoyed our coffee overlooking the landscaped lake. Since our last visit to this area was over 14 years ago, it was obvious that in recent times wineries invest huge amounts of money into their architecturally designed buildings and landscaped surroundings hoping to capitalise not only on the cellar door sales, but the dining / wedding / function aspects too.
The day was beginning to heat up so it was time to discover what Smith's beach had install for us. We were greeted by perfect beach conditions - brilliant blue sky, crystal turquoise waters and some waves! Positioning ourselves between the flags we chatted to the girls about the dangers of this beach - a traditional thing we do with any swimming spot. In particular about the waves but there is nothing like learning by doing!
Katy was first to experience a decent dumping. The poor thing had legs flailing everywhere and was in tears after face planting into the sand, hurting her lip in the process. However it only took a few cuddles in the towel and drink of water before she wanted to go in again albeit more cautiously this time.
The girls loved the mood of this beach, body surfing, diving through or jumping over the waves and when their energy levels dropped we diverged from sandcastles to building tunnels in the sand.
