Aston Crescent Wildlife

Despite living in suburbia, we are inundated with wildlife which is mostly lovely. Looking out into the backgarden we often see a variety of Rosellas as well as the noisy flock of Sulphur-crested Cockatoos. There has been the odd blue tongue lizard plus a gang of rats (that thankfully look like they have moved on). Not to mention the possums...I think Dad and Katy counted 8 walking along the fence early one morning.

So the other day I ventured into the garage to retrieve the blue gardening bucket only to discover a poor little soul stuck inside! The girls were excited to see a cute little mouse and did lots of aahing and ooohing. After some time I did manage to convince them to release the poor thing who was looking a little worse for wear.

Several evenings later, after the sun had disappeared and we were both doing nothing special...probably on our computers, there was a loud bang from outside. I didn't think much of it and continued doing whatever it was I was caught up. A short time later, a couple of possums decided to perch in the gum tree in the back yard and have a very loud argument. Annoyed by their antics I ventured outside to scare them off and did so successfully.

Turning around to return inside I was amazed to see a small possum clinging for dear life on the back flyscreen door! I put 2 + 2 together and realised that it scrambling up the screen was the noise we had heard earlier in the night!

At first we thought its claws were stuck but no it seemed that the poor soul was scared sh--less. No amount of coaxing from me with a broom could convince it to move. It only wanted to climb higher!

We left the possum to it. Before going to bed we checked on its progress only to discover that it had moved laterally by about a metre and was now perched on the bricks. Thankfully by morning there was no sign of it.
