Sneaky Snowtime

With the excellent snow conditions continuing, we seized the opportunity of an almost empty lodge and took Cath and Aoife up for a sneaky skiing long weekend. Ella's soccer presentations meant we didn't leave until early afternoon on Saturday thus arriving at Guthega too late for skiing, so instead showed our guest around the lodge. The snow was almost covering the entire window of our room!

Sunday was an absolutely gorgeous still sunny day. The expected masses of people were nowhere to be seen. Perhaps they'd left after the pandemonium of yesterday. We headed straight to the ridge chair. The roller coaster was the best I've ever seen allowing for a smooth ski down the usually bumpy steep slopes. We completed a few laps, taking advantage of the perfect conditions and lack of crowds. Ella and Andy convinced me to try Excelerator which was fairly manageable and enjoyable.

Our day was to try to take things easy - Aoife had mostly lost her voice and was doing a sterling effort fighting off a cold. So we were mindful not to push too hard as we wanted to all be skiing tomorrow too!

Photos of Ella are hard to get as she is always in front, speeding down the slopes!

We stopped for a late morning tea or an early lunch break before heading over towards Copperhead road ending up at Interceptor. Our next run was weaving our own path through the snow gums in the direction of Discovery trails ending up once again at Interceptor. By now energy levels were dropping so it was time to head back towards Guthega.

Our journey took us back towards Pleasant Valley under the bottom of Brumby and on to Roller coaster finishing at the Ridge chair again. This time off the top we started down Side saddle before taking See Forever for the first time, a traverse which joins Guthega Way and includes skiing through the sea container (which forms the bridge or hump on Blue Cow Way).

From there it was up the Freedom chair to the top of Guthega Peak, before skiing down Bloody Mary onto Norweigian Trail and dropping the girls off at the lodge. Cath and I skied off while Andy settled them in. We enjoyed exploring the variation of runs off Guthega Peak giving our quads a great workout. It's amazing how much more work they do without the kids! A short time later Andy joined us too (leaving the girls to their own devices back at the lodge!!) and together we did a few of the harder runs including Mother-in-law and my first black run The Screw! Can't say I enjoyed that one very much but at least I didn't stack!

We left Andy out enjoying the conditions while we headed back to the lodge feeling great after a wonderful day of skiing!
