Our New Year began covered in an extremely thick blanket of smoke. Canberra topping the worldwide list list for air quality and pollution!! Bushfires were raging and it seemed like the whole south coast was on fire! We were glued to our app - Fires Near Me watching the burnt out areas increase. The news covered nothing else but stories emerging of the destruction and heartbreaking experiences of the many people affected.Amongst the smoke we farewelled Annwen, Ashley and Nathan along with Jan and Russell. They were off on the next stage of their east coast adventure - driving up to Queensland.
For the rest of the day our family mostly hung around inside - watching the cricket, doing odd jobs and generally keeping ourselves busy. I did venture out into the vegetable patch to be rewarded with a bowl full of blackberries. Delicious!
