Kangarutha Track

Cath and I had our eye on this 9km trail in the Bournda National Park, hoping to run it during our beach stay. With the threat of a potential large downpour tomorrow and having done our surfing for the day, we saw a window of opportunity and grabbed it.

Eoin kindly dropped us off on the shore of Wallagoot Lake. As we emerged from the car, I received a text from Andy saying that maybe we wouldn't have to run all the way home from Kianinny Bay as he might go for a run. Anyway we got going wondering if we'd see him later. It was about a 1km run to Wallagoot Gap, a very cool little spot which is at the southern most point of the Kangarutha Track.

From here the single track winds its way along the coastline. Through the tea trees, we catch glimpses of the ocean. The first part of the trail is much faster than I'd expected.

The northern section of the Kangarutha Track is much more rugged as the trail dips into small bays and coves. Unfortunately for us, as we crossed one of these said coves, stopped to take a nice photo of the rock pool, then we lost the trail on the other side. Climbing up a steep rocky slope, we thought the trail would become more obvious at the top however it didn't! Then instead of retracing our steps and locating the track (which had taken a 90° left turn to exit the cove), we thought we'd cut through the tea trees and intersect with the said track. I mean surely it wasn't that far away...hmm can you see where this is going??

Then funnily enough as we were meandering  our way through the thick tea trees in search of the track, Andy and Patrick who'd run from the north and were looking to bump into us, were on that bit of track and we'd conveniently missed them!!!

So we emerged at Kianinny Bay, the car is in the carpark - I don't have a key and the boys are nowhere to be seen. We patiently wait. Meanwhile the boys had continued on further south wondering where we were. Eventually they'd turned around and returned to the car to find us shivering at the bay! We all had a chuckle as we recounted our adventure!!
