The retreat seems to get closer to Christmas every year - and the weekend before Christmas is as close as you can get! We left after athletics to drive the 3hrs to Hobart Beach, a national parks campground in Bournda National Park just south of Tathra.
It was a warm day, so a late afternoon splash in the lake was very much welcomed. With rain rolling in, the evening light tinged with a rainbow was quite eerie.
An early morning run allowed us to scout the local area. We ran south to tiptoeing around many large puddles attempting to keep our shoes dry! All this unexpected water on the track was draining into Bondi Lake, a large body of fresh water situated behind Bournda Beach. A few km's later, we found Bournda Lagoon where Sandy Beach Creek meets the ocean.
Once back at the campsite, plans were made for the day. Consensus was to walk the km or so north along the beach to the Wallagoot Headland to the sheltered section of Bournda Beach. A great spot for the little people amongst the group. The older gang swam out to the rocky point, where a session of jumping off rocks took place!Late afternoon we drove to Bournda Lagoon to check out surfing / swimming conditions. Unfortunately it was too rough for surfing with a storm brewing. Swimming briefly in the surf before we the girls retreated for a dip in the lagoon while it rained!
After an excellent photo of lightning last night, Ella was inspired to wake early for a sunrise photo session. Unfortunately she only managed a few photos before her camera ran out of battery!
