Exploring Mimosa NP

Sunday began with a bit of whale watching from our balcony although we didn't manage to spot any before departing for our planned days outing - Mimosa Rocks National Park. We headed to the northern end of the park, a 30min drive from Tathra. From the Aragunnu carpark it was a short walk down to the beach.

The rocky beach was a haven for fossicking. We discovered a dead eel and collected many shells. There was a little bit of rock climbing and exploring followed by lunch.

Post lunch we picked our way over the pebbles investigating the rock pools as we made our way to the northern end of the beach where the paddle steamer Mimosa is said to be resting after running aground in 1863. We climb over a grassy mound to join the boardwalk only to discover we'd walk straight over an Aboriginal midden, apparently the largest in the park! Out along the boardwalk we learnt about the significant of this site for the Koori people.

Rather than retrace our steps we took the inland track, through the scrub to return to the cars. A nice day out.
