Talk Time 2014

Ella had a regular talk time slot on Thursdays. At the start of each term, the talk time topics were sent home. I thought it was a great way for sharing information about the students in the class as well as opening up new conversations and ideas. As the year progressed, talk time had to be typed up and printed out and would often include photos or pictures that would be displayed on the smart board. It was fun to do with Ella even though the typing was usually done at the last minute!

Here are a few of Ella's talks from last year.....

Good morning 1/2 PW. Today I am going to talk about rocks.

Rocks can come in different shapes and sizes. The rock I’ve got here today is from my own back garden.

Here, Ms Whitford, catch!!  The pumice is from the beach. It is the lightest rock of all. It can float in water and it is from volcanoes.

The fossil is from the dinosaur museum. Some of you might have gone to the dinosaur museum. Fossils are made by a little animal resting on the seabed; seaweed and sand cover it, then soil and rocks cover it. After many years it gets squashed, the things that cover it give way and someone finds a fossil. Nearly all fossils are found in rocks.

Jewels are also rocks. They are dug from mines and sold in jewellery shops. I have got 3 gemstones: an amethyst, quartz and some little blue rocks. Other jewels such as sapphires, emeralds, diamonds, rubys, amber, moonstone and garnet.

Some stones have little crystals in them that make them sparkle in the sunlight. Some rocks have colour in them, and some have patterns on them.

Never think that rocks are useless, because they actually help us a lot.

Thankyou for listening. Does anyone have any questions or comments?

What do you do in your free time?

Good morning 1/2PW.
In my free time I like to play chess. I play with Daddy. My Dad doesn’t play easy on me, even know I’m just learning.

Pawns can’t move backwards, Kings can only move one space, you say “Check” when you can get the other person’s King and in “Checkmate” your King can’t move anywhere and you lose.

Thankyou for listening.

A favourite book.

Good morning ½ PW

The book I has chosen is the Children’s World Atlas.

It first talks about the earth and how it is made.

Then it talks about different places of the world.

One of my favourite pages is Habitats and Wildlife of Antarctica. It has lots of interesting facts and amazing photos.

For example – there are 36 types of seal and only 6 of them live in Antarctica. They are crabeater, leopard, Ross, Weddell (which crack through the ice with their front teeth), elephant and Antarctic fur seals.

I love Antarctica and I would like to live there but it is too cold.

Thank you for listening.

Do you have any questions or comments?

And this one on hobbies.
