Garden Growings

The chickens are happy and shop bought eggs are a thing of the past! Although Maple has gone broody over the last week!

Harvesting of the winter vegetables meant a few tiny heads of cauliflower plus lots of broccolini! There seemed to be a long wait for anything to get going followed by a short window before they all went to seed!

Spring and the warmer weather enabled me to visit the nursery so that I could spend my birthday money. Purchases included a dwarf cherry tree now planted between the chicken pen and washing line. The lime tree which has never produced a lime and who was looking rather sick, was transplanted to a spot adjacent to the vegie beds.

In an attempt to infill the area where I removed the dead grevillea, I planted a Leptospermum or tea tree know as Rudolph which flowers around Christmas plus a Persoonia, an Australian native which has striking yellow tubular flowers. Hopefully both of these will enjoy being under the silky oak and grow up to hide the fence.

The summer seeds have sprouted. Rocket, snow peas and green beans seedlings are in an abundance. Tomato, nasturtiums and Italian parsley seedlings have also gone in. Unfortunately I think we will be on the other side of the world when everything will be ready for picking.
