School Holiday Fun - Rome

Knowing that our upcoming 4 month sabbatical trip to France will involve a side trip to Italy, I thought I'd take the opportunity to see the new exhibition at the National Museum of Australia. Rome: City and Empire promised to be an exhibition where one could 'Witness the grandeur of the vast empire of Ancient Rome and share stories of everyday life, worship, war, glory and death...' The British Museum had loaned 200 beautiful treasures from their own collection for this exhibition.  A spare afternoon presented itself in the school holidays so we seized the moment and took Cath and Aoife with us.

I was annoyed that I'd forgotten to download the free app and audio tour designed for the kids however they didn't seem to mind as they moved quickly through the exhibition hall. Cath and I ambled at a much slower pace, reading and pondering over different exhibits.

We eventually caught up with the girls who were doing a computer colouring in of a roman head! Photos they had taken did show what had sparked their interests...

holding daggers!

to early javelins!

and just for Cath....a toothpick which in the day came as part of the dinner settings!!

The exhibit took us around 45 minutes to complete. Overall we were slightly disappointed for the cost vs experience. I was expecting something a little more impressive and perhaps was unfairly comparing it to the recent Cartier exhibition.
