Cath and I entered the 3 hour Twilight in the Trees rogaine. Set around the Arboretum, Black Mountain and Aranda Hill, we thought this would provide a chance to see areas that we run in frequently differently. And the course didn't disappoint!
Choosing to head northwards around the course, we ran along the shore of Lake Burley Griffin first before tackling the lower slopes of Black Mountain. Lots of flowers still out. We weren't interested in doing any climbing so left a few controls off in this area before collecting several controls in Aranda hill.
A poor route choice through the kangaroo paddocks in the long grass saw us get our feet wet - twice!! The loop in the arboretum involved a slog up through Himalayan cedars. We were going well and enjoying the balmy afternoon. At the back of the arboretum, we assessed our situation and decided to continue on via the zoo loop. We had a little trouble in the zoo pines locating the correct bridge! We found three others before the bridge with the control on it thus wasting 15mins! Still we had plenty of time to drag ourselves along the southern banks of Lake Burley Griffin managing to punch the final few controls before finishing with 8 minutes to spare!
A great run with distractions which meant the 20km we covered didn't seems so far! Looking forward to the next one.
