Off to Japan

We had a few working days and a weekend to fill in prior to our departure which kept us busy. Last minute shopping and organising was done on the weekend and by Sunday night we were looking readyish!

Wednesday - departure day - dawned! Our flight from Canberra left in the evening, we had most the day to do the normal last minute dropping off the dog, cleaning and packing. Feeling good we met Nana for a coffee catch up!

Flights all went without any hiccups or delays. We flew via Sydney, Tokyo and into Sapporo - a total of 12 hours flying time then a 1.5 hour bus trip to Rusutsu. Door to door travelling time was around 23 hours.

Coming into New Chitose airport, we were greeted to lots of countryside and fields covered in snow. We had time in the airport for udon lunch and be reacquainted with warm toilets seats and waterfall sounds!

The bus trip to Rusutsu was straightforward. We spotted deer in the snow; drove through multiple tunnels, enjoyed the views across Lake Shikotsu to Mount Eniwa all while the snow cover got deeper! A short stop at Kinoko Okoku Otaki a restaurant, food market and gift shop all under the one roof.

The snowy dome of Mt Yōtei, the backdrop to Rusutsu came into view and it wasn’t long before we were departing the bus. Our accomodation shuttle arrived quickly and whisked us 3km back along the road we had just driven down to our home for the next 5 days.
