The drive was long, boring and warm as the temperature rose into the 30's! We listened to the real Red Dog audiobook from the library and stopped once to change drivers. We sustained another chip in the windscreen.
We rolled into Broome airport to pick up our hire car then drove to the Redsands depot for advice on car washing. A quick transfer of our gear from Bec into the Outlander. Leaving the hire car behind, we all piled into Bec and drove off in search of the car wash.
The self serve car wash was busy and we joined the queue. 20 mins later and $20 poorer, we were amazed at the amount of red dust that came off Bec who was now looking rather sparkly and white! Back to the depot to sadly hand over Bec and the keys.
We throughly loved driving and staying in Bec. We'd covered 4,500+kms in 25 days, spending 52+hrs behind the wheel. The whole setup of the camper was fantastic. We thought the roof top tents were awesome and had many fellow travellers come up to us wanting to know more about them. In packing up, the girls had to pack away everything in their tent- their sleeping bags and pillows while ours the bedding - pillows, doona and blankets remained and we just pulled the lid down which was the only difficult bit we encountered. The clips associated with securing the lid to the base required both of us using all of our strength to snap them shut! When out the ladder to our tent got taken on and off as we needed to get into the side where all our clothes were. Where as the girls ladder remained up. The packing up of the tents to use the car was slightly annoying but even so it only took 15mins to get going. It probably took longer too get the 4 chairs into their bags!!
After we said goodbye to Bec, we drove away slightly deflated that our holiday was fast coming to an end! We were all exhausted, hot and hungry by the time we arrived at our bungalow. So after a very late lunch we headed straight to the pool to cool off.
